Panoramic peaks, Bond World thrills, and quiet moments in Mürren’s misty heights.
📅 July 16, 2025
We decided to split the day: half adventure, half rest.
Our morning started with a walk through Mürren, where Jonas greeted his alpine slug friends with a cheerful “Slug hug!” and stacked them with theatrical flair (“This one’s for the funeral!”). The town was quiet, the air cool, and the views — as always — magical. We passed mountain goats grazing on sloped lawns and made our way to the south end of Mürren for the cable car.

Thanks to our Berner Oberland Pass, we caught a free ride through the clouds to Schilthorn — perched 2,970 meters (9,744 feet) above sea level, with sweeping views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. But it’s not just about the views. Schilthorn is also the iconic setting of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the 1969 James Bond film.
At the summit, we headed straight for Bond World 007, an interactive museum that brings the movie to life. From film clips and behind-the-scenes trivia to a simulated bobsled chase and helicopter ride, it was part cinema, part theme park, and totally unexpected.

After exploring the museum, we stepped outside to brave the gusty winds and pose for family photos against a jaw-dropping alpine backdrop. Then it was time to warm up with lunch at the revolving restaurant — a Bond-worthy setting in itself. The outer ring spins slowly, offering 360° views while you eat. We had hot dogs, soup, and a priceless view.

Next stop: the Birg Thrill Walk, a steel-and-glass walkway clinging to the cliffside below Schilthorn. One section features a tightrope over a metal net. Another is a see-through glass floor. And who led the charge? Jonas. Without hesitation, he stepped onto the wire, smiling. No coaxing, no nudging. Just courage.

After the cable ride back to Mürren, we took it easy for the rest of the day.
As we strolled back through Mürren, bursts of color lined every chalet — window boxes overflowing with geraniums, alpine daisies dancing in the breeze, and hillside gardens blooming in quiet defiance of the mountain mist.

Alina did laundry, Jonas read and played, and I headed solo to InSports Café. Their motto — “Life is too short to have bad coffee” — felt like my mission statement. Check out, “My Journey in Making Coffee” for more. I ordered an Aussie flat white and sat on the patio with my journal. Just me, sunshine, and stillness. A rare kind of rest.

Dinner back at the apartment was a family classic: crispy potatoes roasted in bacon fat, sausage, mushrooms and onions, Greek salad, sparkling raspberry water, and crusty pretzel rolls. A homemade meal to end a cinematic day.

🧳 Parenting & Perspective
Rest isn’t a break from the adventure — it’s part of it.
Whether it was giving Jonas space to be bold on the thrill walk or carving out quiet coffee time for myself, today reminded us: adventure and rest can coexist. One fuels the other. Giving our son room to take risks — on his terms — helped him own those moments. And stepping away from the family for an hour? Helped me return better.
