008 Crowns & Cows

📅 July 12, 2025

On Saturday, we set off for a big adventure.

We started the morning with breakfast at the apartment, followed by a stop at InSport for our usual flat whites and a Kiddyccino for Jonas. Then it was time to hit the trails.

We left Mürren by train and cable car, then caught a train in Lauterbrunnen up to Wengen. On the cogwheel ride, we met a kind family from China—mom, dad, and daughter—who were heading the same way. We struck up a fun conversation and ended up walking together through Wengen until we reached the cable car station.

We boarded the cable car up to Männlichen, rising high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The views were incredible..

After a selfie and business card exchange, we said goodbye to our Chinese friends as they headed off in a different direction

Once at the top, we hiked the Royal Walk up to the “Crown” lookout point. The incline was gentle at first but got steeper toward the top. Jonas blazed ahead like a mountain goat—confident, joyful, and driven. From the summit, we were rewarded with sweeping views of Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, and the Grindelwald valley.

On the way down, I flew the drone and captured some breathtaking shots before we continued on to the Männlichen mountain hotel and playground. We grabbed a shady umbrella table on the patio and combined a small meal of French fries, beer, and German cake with a picnic we’d brought from home.

Then it was Jonas’s favorite part: playtime.

He begged Alina to ride down the giant “cow tongue” slide, and she did! He convinced both of us to spin on the Swiss merry-go-round—which made everyone a little dizzy. He also challenged himself on the low-hanging rope course, reaching out for Daddy’s finger when he needed a boost. Watching him laugh, explore, and stretch himself made the whole trip feel worth it.

Before heading back down, we took a 50-minute scenic roundtrip ride on the gondola to Grindelwald and back. The views were as spectacular as we remembered—lush green pastures dotted with happy cows and the musical clang of their bells echoing in the air. The ride brought back memories of visiting our friends Adina and Jon and their family here two years ago.

50 minutes of flying over Swiss meadows, grazing cows, and alpine air 🚡🐮 The gondola from Männlichen to Grindelwald might be the most peaceful ride in the Alps. #Switzerland #Grindelwald #Männlichen #GondolaRide #SwissViews #BernerOberland #TravelTok #CowsWithBells #SlowTravel

Back at the top, we took the cable car back down to Wengen. We made a stop at the hilltop church for one last look over the valley, then wandered through town, picked up groceries and fresh bakery bread, and began the journey back—Wengen to Lauterbrunnen to Mürren.

That evening, we discovered the floor was getting a little dusty in the apartment. We found a Dyson vacuum in the closet… but had no idea how to use it. So who did we ask for help? Leave your guesses in the comments. 😉

My guess is that you watched a video on how to use the Dyson.

Close! I took a photo of it and asked ChatGPT how to use it! I’ve done that with ovens and wishwashers too–
